PEE WEE GAME SUMMARIES
Wednesday 5/2/07
Nationals 5 Yankees 1
It was a chilly day for a ballgame, but
the Nationals pitching staff really heated things up for the Nationals
first official game of the season. Starting pitcher Sameer Suresh stymied the
Yankees. He was un-touchable, striking out 8 batters over 3 innings. Cole
Zimmerman pitched a strong inning of relief, and Angela White closed out the
game, striking out 3 in her 1 inning of work. The Yankees strong pitching and defense
held the Nationals to 1 run through four innings, but the bats came alive in
the 5th. We're hoping for warmer games next week.
Wednesday 5/16/07Padres 3 Athletics 2It was cold and rainy last Wednesday, but the Pee Wee A's and Padres hung in there and p[layed a close and exciting game. The Padres scored 3 runs on 3 hits, the biggest blast coming on Calvin's home run in the third. Calvin logged an outstanding pitching performance for the Padres, recording 11 strikeouts over 4 innings. The A's threatened to come back in the fourth, with back-to-back triples from Pat and Will, but they couldn't push that third run across the plate.
It was a beautiful day for a
ball game. The low score of this
game tells the story of good gloves on both sides. The Nationals pitching was very tight, with Cole Zimmerman
leading off and giving up only one run in the first. The Nats kept the score to 1-0 with an attractive double
play in the second. Zesen Li is
credited with catching a pop fly, then using his head to put out the runner who
was already on third. Don’t forget
to tag up kids, and listen to your coaches!
The Mets easily answered the
challenge and successfully shut out the Nationals in the first and the
second. No sliding at first was
another lesson learned, as was not batting out of order for the
technicals.
The Nationals bats were hot
at the top of our order in the third, with Andy Margulis, Justin Hardiman, Zion
Pettigrew and Angela White all getting hits that scored.
The rest of the game
remained defensive and was very satisfying. Congratulations to the Mets for an excellent and close game!
